The Worldcoin Foundation has taken a major step forward by launching a developer preview for its new Layer 2 blockchain network, World Chain. This move marks a crucial phase in Worldcoin’s development.
The developer preview is currently available to a limited number of developers. The preview allows for exploration, building, and testing of the World Chain before its anticipated mainnet launch later this summer. This early access period is crucial for gathering feedback and ensuring a smooth transition.

World Chain preview phase attracted Alchemy and Elliptic
World Chain is built using Optimism’s OP Stack, a popular toolkit for creating Layer 2 solutions. This choice aligns World Chain with the broader Superchain network of Layer 2 chains secured by Ethereum.
Ryan Wyatt, Chief Growth Officer at Optimism Unlimited, expressed enthusiasm about Worldcoin joining the Superchain ecosystem.
The preview phase has garnered support from key industry players, including Alchemy, Safe, and Elliptic, who are providing essential tooling and infrastructure. Safe’s Head of Network, Thibaut Sahaghian, emphasized their commitment to supporting World Chain with advanced smart account infrastructure.
While the Worldcoin Foundation is officially launching World Chain, it’s worth noting that Worldcoin has been primarily developed by Tools for Humanity, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
While Worldcoin has received criticism around the world for its iris scanning, World Chain is still progressing with its development.
