If you want to buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card, you’ll most likely have to use a P2P (peer-to-peer) cryptocurrency marketplace. P2P cryptocurrency marketplaces provide a platform where cryptocurrency buyers and sellers can arrange trades directly with each other. Funds are placed into escrow until both the buyer and seller completed their end of the transaction. After both parties confirm the transaction, funds are released from escrow.

The pros and cons of buying Bitcoin with a Visa gift card

The main advantage of P2P cryptocurrency marketplaces is flexibility. Most importantly, sellers can choose to accept a wide variety of payment methods.

Before we proceed to show you how to buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card using a P2P marketplace, it’s worth keeping in mind that there’s an increased risk of fraud when you’re using a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency marketplace.

While these services employ escrow and other measures to protect their users, buying cryptocurrency directly from another user is riskier than using traditional crypto exchange.

In addition, you have to be mindful of the price at which you’re buying Bitcoin when using P2P exchanges. Since the seller sets their own price, you could be buying BTC at a significantly higher rate than the current market rate.

In the vast majority of cases, traditional cryptocurrency exchanges don’t accept Visa gift cards. We did find one non-P2P platform that offers this option, although it charges a substantial fee.

    • Convert your gift card balance to an asset that could appreciate over the long term
    • Non-KYC options available for privacy conscious users
    • Not supported by the biggest crypto exchanges
    • Significantly worse BTC rates
    • You’ll likely have to use a P2P marketplace which is less secure than a standard crypto exchange

How to buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card?

Without further ado, let’s take a look at three platforms where you can buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card.

    • Noones – A P2P crypto marketplace with Visa gift card option
    • CoinCola – Buy Bitcoin with a wide range of other payment methods
    • CardCoins – Direct Bitcoin purchases with Visa gift card for U.S. customers

Noones – A P2P crypto marketplace with Visa gift card option

Noones is a P2P cryptocurrency trading platform where you can buy Bitcoin, Tether and USD Coin. The platform allows sellers to accept a huge range of payment options, including Visa gift cards. Noones can also be used for buying Bitcoin with a prepaid card.

You can find offers that accept Visa gift cards by selecting the “OneVanilla VISA / Mastercard gift card” payment option.

Then, you will able to see a list of all the available offers that meet your criteria. Make sure to only look for offers that are applicable to residents of the country where you live.

    Noones crypto marketplace

As you can see in the image below, you’ll be paying a substantial premium if you want to buy Bitcoin using this payment method. At the time of writing this article, the market price of BTC is around $26,780. Meanwhile, the best offer for buying Bitcoin with a Visa gift card is pricing Bitcoin at $34,950, a premium of over 30{ee212069bfc2680724ddd6b0d505d051cd6a6be760d8da0a6a57844f2abae5c8}.

To be fair, this is not a criticism of the Noones platform. You’ll always get less bang for your buck when buying crypto with a gift card, simply because they are less useful than money.

If you find an offer that interests you, click on it to see additional details. Typically, the seller will provide everything you need to know in the “offer terms” section. For example, they might specify exactly which types of gift cards they accept.

According to the Noones platform, users can trade or withdraw up to $700 per day only by verifying their phone number and without verifying their identity. So, you can use Noones to buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card with no ID. However, users who want to remove the $700 daily limit should verify their identity. Users who want to remove this limit should verify their identity.

CoinCola – Buy Bitcoin with a wide range of other payment methods

CoinCola is a cryptocurrency trading platform that provides a feature where users can exchange gift cards for crypto. You can use CoinCola to buy crypto with a Visa gift card, and the platform also supports a number of other options for buying Bitcoin with a gift card. You can buy BTC, ETH or USDT using the CoinCola marketplace.

To do so, you can go to the “Gift Card Trade” section of CoinCola and select “Visa Gift Card” as a payment method when filtering offers. The CoinCola platform also allows you to get more specific and search for offers accepting Target Visa Gift cards, Walmart Visa Gift cards and others.

Once you find an offer that interests you, you can check it for more details. If you can meet the seller’s requirements, you can get started with the transaction.

CardCoins – Direct Bitcoin purchases with Visa gift card for U.S. customers

So far, we have highlighted two P2P crypto marketplaces where you can buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card. CardCoins is different, as it allows you to do so directly without dealing with individual sellers. Please note that CardCoins is currently only available in selected U.S. states, and the platform has a $500 maximum limit for single purchases.

Just like other methods of buying Bitcoin with gift cards, the exchange rate you’ll get on CardCoins will be worse than if you were simply buying BTC with money on a cryptocurrency exchange.

If you live in the United States, CardCoins can be a better option than using a P2P cryptocurrency marketplace. At the time of writing, the BTC rate they offer is better than the best offers on the Noones and CoinCola P2P marketplace.

The bottom line — It’s possible to buy Bitcoin with a Visa gift card, but not recommended

There’s a few options available if you’re looking to buy crypto with a Visa gift card. However, we generally don’t recommend buying Bitcoin in this way, as you’ll be getting Bitcoin at a significantly worse rate than the market price. In addition, you’ll most likely have to use a P2P marketplace, which is generally more inconvenient and less secure than using a standard cryptocurrency exchange.
