In an unexpected turn of events, the Aptos blockchain, renowned for its use of the Move language, has been offline for more than four hours. AptoScan’s block explorer reveals that on-chain transactions abruptly ceased at block 104621314, with the last recorded transaction timestamped at 7:11 UTC+8 on October 19, 2023.
Major Exchanges Hit Pause!
This disruption has led major exchanges like Upbit and OKX to suspend deposits and Aptos (APT) token withdrawals.
Aptos Network took to Twitter to address the situation, saying, “Your energy for Aptos One was so electric, you cut the lights!” Though aimed to be humorous, the tweet confirmed that transactions on the network had been impacted. The team assured users they are “working diligently to resolve the issue.”
The statement raises more questions than it answers. While the development team is aware of the issue, it’s unclear what caused the network to go down in the first place and when it will be restored. Aptos users are advised to avoid transactions until an official announcement declares the network stable.
Upbit Jumps Into Action
Upbit, a well-known digital asset exchange, responded swiftly to the situation. They suspended Aptos (APT) deposit and withdrawal services, citing “network maintenance” as the reason. The exchange informed users that deposits would resume once the maintenance was completed but warned about potential delays due to network congestion.

Following suit, OKX also issued an announcement regarding the Aptos network going offline. OKX was scheduled to undergo maintenance for the Aptos network at 8:30 pm UTC on October 18, 2023, and following the unexpected network disruption, deposits and withdrawals of APT tokens have been temporarily suspended.
One of the more interesting points from OKX’s announcement is that the trading of APT tokens will not be affected during this period. Traders might see this as an opportunity or a risk, given that the network’s status is uncertain.
Why Should You Care?
If you’re holding Aptos on Upbit, your assets are in limbo. The exchange will process deposits and withdrawals sequentially after the network is restored. So brace yourself for some delays.
Currently, Aptos users are left with many questions and few answers. The suspension of transactions on major exchanges and the network’s downtime raises concerns about its robustness and reliability. However, the Aptos Network assures that they are working diligently to resolve the issue, and updates are eagerly awaited.
